The Value of A Moment Is In The Memories

"Sometimes you don't appreciate the value of a moment until it becomes a memory."

"Sometimes you don't appreciate
the value of a moment
until it becomes a memory."

Truer words have never been spoken. Family is constantly in transition. Precious ones must leave us while new ones arrive and fill our hearts with joy.  That's why I like to take photos and video of our youngest and eldest family members in a setting that speak volumes about their interests, traits, qualities, abilities.

I catch them singing and dancing, cooking and crafting. I listen while they're telling stories and I try to ask thoughtful questions to open the unspoken pages of their lives. I especially love to see their reaction when a question triggers a fond memory. As we turn the pages of their regained memories together, to see their eyes light up and their smile gleam makes it all so worthwhile.

Why not go for walks and talk about life from their perspective. It's a good idea to let them know that you were watching and listening by repeating their thoughts in context at appropriate times. And at the end of the day write down some of what was said and the lessons learned.

If they were caught on video laughing, joking, crafting or having an aha moment set it to background music and see the magic take you away. When you come back the notes, photos and video a few years later it will have so much more meaning than you ever knew it could.

The Decade For Humanity

"The Decade For Humanity"

The 2020 decade is filled with some of the most significant milestones compared to previous decades in the past five centuries. Why and what makes it so? Three reasons; invention, hope and family. This decade gave birth to the affordable mobile smartphone. The James Webb Space Telescope went into orbit around the sun at the end of 2021. The auto driven vehicle made its debut as well. Other outstanding accomplishments include the following:

  • Artificial intelligence
  • Genetic engineering
  • Electric cars
  • 3D printing
  • Artificial organs
  • Bluetooth

Now that's something worth celebrating. The 2020 decade is not only a decade of invention, it's a decade of hope. Many are more focused on building stronger international ties than ever before. It's a time to stand together across all divides. A time to stop standing on the sidelines and begin building a rock-solid foundation for a global community.

For families, it's a time to prioritize family values, enjoy family time and heighten family support over and above corporate constructs and improve mental and emotional health for the betterment of the community.

Taking Advantage of Family Reunion Planning Month

It's still November the remainder of the month. And that means it's still Annual Family Reunion Planning Month.  Take advantage of early reunion planning tips at its best.  Here are a few tips shared by experienced reunion planners to help you make your event planning experience a sure success.

Take Advantage of Seasonal Travel Discounts

During the Months of November through January many family events are observed. Federal holidays and long holiday weekends make for the perfect season for family gatherings. Take advantage of readily available seasonal family travel discounts. Avoid Last-minute flight deals by booking early. Take advantage of off-season hotel deals across the US. Plan on dining out? During the fall and winter season there are fantastic deals on group dining, shows and clubs. Families with teenage children save big at theme, amusement and adventure park entertainment.

Take Advantage of The Season for Support and Bonding

The Fall and Winter season focuses on visiting and supporting the elders of the family. During this time we tend to focus on how we can show our parents and grandparents we love and cherish them. We enjoy eating their comfort food, getting cozy,  and listening to their stories as they open up a colorful world of family history to us. Take advantage of this time to build closer bonds, document your family history and get the family involved in planning for the next big event - the family reunion.

Take Advantage of Early Event Planning Money Savers

There are endless money saving advantages when starting your family reunion planning in November. Make plans to take advantage of Black Friday and other seasonal sales. Plan on doing a load of cooking? November is the ideal season to reserve your home appliance purchases including indoor and outdoor ovens, indoor gaming and outdoor game equipment as well as cookware and coolers.

Having your reunion at the ol' homestead? Need to make some home improvements first? November is the ideal month to get started. Take advantage of seasonal discounts on electric and manual tools, ladders and toolboxes.  Now is the time to create a list of all items needed for your home and upcoming special events including your family reunion.
