Busy Life? - 6 Fun Ideas To Engage The Family Remotely

So you're busy.  Super busy.  Aren't we all? Which makes managing your family life a major challenge. But it's also a major issue. We need to be there for our spouse, our children and parents. But being there is not enough. We need to live in the moment, engage them and above all be a source of inspiration and motivation. In other words, family life should be a colorful and wondrous experience. So the big question is, how do you manage it in order to enjoy it?

It seems the older the children get, the more they need. If just trying to survive were not enough, seeing to their needs often translates into spending more and more time on the job going after that time and a half and chasing overtime pay. Some parents try to compensate for being away from home by texting their children every few hours, and that o.k., but there's no substitute for actually being there with your family, getting to know them and engaging in meaningful bonding activities. So what do we do to engage them when we can't be there physically? Here are a few engaging ideas.

Establish remote projects and activities with your spouse and children and work on them every few days or so.  The idea is for each family member to work on the same project individually according to their own time schedule. Each time they visit the project they see what the other family member has done to contribute to its completion. It can take weeks or months to progress through the completion of the project, but the time spent with each one doing their part is well worth it. It makes each family member feel closer to the other. Most important, remember to leave those silly progress notes.

Here's a remote activities list to help you engage with your family even when you can't be there physically each day.

Remote Family Projects and Activities List

  1. Make a family quilt together. Cut several quilt squares from different pieces of material. Sew a square into a quilt. Perhaps the squares could be cloth prints pictures of family members when they were younger.
  2. Make a family pillow. The pillow could bear the insignia of the family surname and/or crest.
  3. Don't have a family crest. Make one up just for fun and let each family member contribute a part of the design.
  4. Play a multiplayer video game over a wifi network. It starts getting really fun when split the team into teams within one family. Play at a designated time on lunch breaks
  5. Plan all the details of a family vacation together by looking at a variety of videos together in conference mode. Videos can include information about the local, travel, activities, history, tours, and cuisine.
  6. Plan a fun-filled empowering family reunion with all the fascinating bells and whistles including genealogy, discovering homesteads, family history, family recipes, explore family culture, games and activities.

Feeling inspired? We're just getting started. List other projects and activity ideas you know your family will love engaging in remotely proving that though you're apart, you're still very much a part of their lives.

How To Make A Family Reunion Flyer In 6 Steps

There are many ways to promote your family reunion. This article discusses wording and formatting family reunion flyers for digital use, hand distribution and post mail.

Your flyers should serve as both an invitation, instructions for RSVP and provide some event itinerary details. The following instructions are for flyers created using Ms Word compatible document editors.

You'll find a selection of reunion fliers online and in Fimark's Family Reunion Planner Social web app.  Your flyer should include the following. A theme, slogan, date, activities and contact information. Instructions regarding meet and greet can be included or added to a later flyer.

1.  Reunion Theme - The theme should be positioned near the top center of the flyer above all other text to be entered. Experiment with various font colors, faces and styles such as bolded and large size text. Locate and insert text boxes on the flyer template.  Text boxes allow the user to enter and edit text over the flyers embedded graphic. The theme should be positioned near the top center of the flyer above all other text to be entered. Experiment with various font colors, faces and styles such as bolded, large size text.

2.  Family Reunion Slogan - Now add the family reunion slogan. This can be centered within a text box under the theme using a smaller sized font.

3.  Family Reunion Date(s) - Now enter the family reunion date(s). Although numerical month, day and year is sufficient it's usually best to spell out the day(s) and month so users will know exactly what day of the week they are to attend.

4.  Family Reunion Activities - List as many planned activities under the date text box as available space allows. List activities according to rank of importance or significance while including those that will appeal to the majority of attendees.

5.  Contact Information - Add full name(s), email address, home and cell phone numbers, fax and family reunion website address and any special RSVP deadline instructions.

6. Ticket Sale Information can be added toward the end as this is the essential action item.

Send online invitations and keep up with RSVP's using the following resources and applications:

The Gift Called Family

Having someone to love is what we call family. Living with those we love is what we call home. Working hard with those we love and seeing good for what we accomplish together is both a gift and a blessing.

If you feel blessed in this way you have found the secret of happiness. Now all that is needed is to preserve and protect it. The key to doing that is housed in family principles and age-old family traditions.

Fun Family Activities

Walk places together.
Stretch out on the lawn, patio or rooftop and watch the stars.
Fish or bird watch together.
Build a doll house.
Build a tree house.
Make a tent on the bed.
Tell stories about your ancestral heritage.
Cook and bake by recipe together.
Have a family talent show.
Schedule family game night.

How To Stir Up The Excitement

If you're like me, you want some spice in your event program. A little cultural cuisine, good music and activities that leave everyone elated and rejuvenated. But so often the event is just a bunch of folks sitting around eating and talking.

Frankly, the key to having an upbeat interactive event that binds family ties is in the planning. The kind of planning that gets everyone excited and wanting to be involved. When folks arrive anticipating contributing to something special it usually ends up being something special if not spectacular.

How can you get more family members excited about the next family reunion event? Simple. INCLUSION. Get them involved in entertainment and activity planning. Need to reel them in even more? Throw a talent show or have TV game show activities.

Talent Show
Featured talent show acts can include singing, dance, comedy, puppets, acting, short storytelling, juggling, and more. For TV game show activity ideas that stir up excitement check out the ebook feature of the Fimark's Family Reunion Planner and review the activities.

How To Stop The Madness!

Have you've ever gotten so bogged down with work that you seemed trapped in an occupational maze? Slaving for the man and unforeseen occurrences can easily result in early burnout.  Often family bonds go neglected. Getting back on track may be difficult and even when you put forth some effort to get closer to sons and daughters, mom and dad a perfunctory routine may not do much to keep family bonds strong and meaningful.

Just stop the madness. Get out of the rat race. The days are getting longer and warmer. The sky is bluer. The air is fresher. The birds are chirping and the flowers are in bloom. It's time to think about sharing in some cool activities for spring.

This season plan to get out of the house and do something fun with your family. Steer in the direction of rediscovering and celebrating good old reliable family values. Start by gathering the family at the dinner table. Fix and serve their favorite healthy meal. Now sit down and chow down.  Ask them to brain storm some exciting activities they would like to do this spring and summer. Make definite plans to make it happen. Before you know it they will be back in your arms again.

What Goodness Looks Like

Goodness: A quality or act inspiring joy, comforting and putting at ease, rightness of heart. A helpful service rendered on behalf of others.

Ever wondered what goodness looks, feels, tastes and smells like? A child once said it's like freshly baked bread. Perhaps she meant the aroma of browned and buttered bread pulled straight from the oven. Or when it's served up with a warm smile and that bubbly joy you feel when family gather to feast at the same table?

Nothing comes close to that warm, lighthearted feeling you get when the moms are baking and cooking in the kitchen using recipes from their grandmother's mother. The guys are arguing sports stats in the living room and the kids are cackling and laughing while at play just outside the front door. You smile at it all. Put your feet up on the recliner and sip lemonade from a tall icy glass. A cool breeze blows through an open window and tickles your face. "This", you blithely sigh... "This is good."  This is family. How much goodness is in your life? Your parents? Your children?

There was a study conducted over a 40 year time span by various social science study groups. The study centered on whether giving makes the giver happier. The evidence was overwhelmingly conclusive. It does. There is a certain happiness in giving and a deeply abiding joy when the giver sees the good results that meaningful practical gifts have on the receiver over an extended period of time. In fact such giving can actually cure deep emotional ills and improve health and the wellbeing of both giver and receiver. Who knew?

Somewhere along the way someone in our past decided to start what became an age old tradition. To impart goodness in the lives and hearts of those they loved most. Their motivation? An ancient promise... "There is more happiness in giving than in receiving."

The past has passed. But we can learn a lot from it. There is the present, and with that the ability to deeply impact the future for good once again.  This privilege falls on us. Why not make the most of it?  The question now is how? Keep searching and you will find.
